NFL Draft time is right around the corner and I’m getting the itch! Over the next few weeks I’ll blog about the draft sharing my thoughts and predictions. To help out with the fun I’ve chosen one of our long time listeners “JAB from Hampden” to help me out. JAB is an avid NFL football fan and is ready to put his knowledge out there for all to see. First up is JAB’s ROUND 1 breakdown…JABMOCK1.0 folks! Stay tuned to the blogs for mine coming soon…and be sure to hit us up with your picks. ENJOY! – BULLDOG
JAB’s Mock 1.0
1-St. Louis (1-15) Sam Bradford (QB)-Oklahoma
Nothing brings life to a franchise like a #1 QB.
2. Detroit (2-14) Ndamukong Suh (DT)-Nebraska
Best player in the draft. Enough said. Upset alert-Lions could take Russel Okung to protect Strafford’s backside
3. Tampa Bay (3-13) Gerald McCoy (DT)-Oklahoma
If the Lions botch their pick then the Bucs would luckbox themselves into Suh. but if not McCoy is a great pick.
4.Washington (4-12) Russel Okung(OT)- Oklahoma St
This is where the draft starts, in my opinion. The Skins haven’t made any off-season splashes yet, but don’t be surprised if they take Eric Berry here and trade him to St. Louis in a Eli Manning/Phillip Rivers scenario.
5.Kansas City (4-12) Eric Berry(S)-Tennessee
Perfect spot for both parties. KC gave up the most passing yards last year and Berry is a difference maker in the secondary.
6.Seattle (5-11) –Jimmy Clausen (QB)-Notre Dame
Pete Carroll is the new sheriff in town and like St. Louis, the “Hawks” need a spark. With 2 picks in the top 15, they can gamble with on the “golden boy”.
7. Cleveland (5-11)-Joe Haden(DB)-Florida
This is where our first real trade could come in the first round. Mike Holgrem is re-shaping this blundering organization and adding draft picks would do that. Possible trade-Buffalo moves up and takes (OT)Trent Williams.
8. Oakland (5-11)-Bruce Campbell(OT)-Maryland
Even if the Bills don’t trade up for Williams, the Raiders will fall in love with Campbell’s “measurable’s”. Fear the Turtle once again in Oaktown.
9. Buffalo (6-10)-Trent William(OT)-Oklahoma
Either way the Bills are going to get a “potential” Pro Bowl left tackle that hopefully has a better career than Mike Williams.
10-Jacksonville (7-9)-Jason Pierre-Paul(LB/DL)-S.Florida
Although many ‘experts” expect the Jags to either trade down or take Tim Tebow, Jack Del Rio doesn’t have time to sell tickets. Pierre-Paul is a beast who’s motor always is running.
11-Denver – from Chicago (7-9)-Rolando McClain-(LB)-Bama’
The Broncos need an identity on defense and McClain is a leader who makes others around him better.
12.Miami (7-9)-Derrick Morgan(LB)-G-Tech
Not since tackling machine Zach Thomas has the Dolphins enjoyed a solid LB.
13. San Francisco (8-8)-Dan Williams(DT)-Tennessee
This is a steal for the Niners, who need someone to clog the middle and let Patrick Willis do his thing.
14. Seattle – from Denver (8-8)-Bryan Bulaga(OT)-Iowa
Seattle hits the “2-team parlay” with adding fast rising Bulaga to protect Clausen’s backside for years to come. Now Walter Jones can finally retire.
15. New York Giants (8-8)-C.J. Spiller(RB/KR)-Clemson
This pick might be a reach because of where Spiller is ranked, but the Giants need a home run threat in both the backfield and the return game. Enter Mr. Spiller.
16. Tennessee (8-8)-Earl Thomas(DB)-Texas
Somehow Thomas falls into Jeff Fisher’s hands. The former DB in college knows a solid, efficient DB when he sees one.
17. San Francisco – from Carolina (8-8)-Mike Iupati(OL)-Idaho
This former Vandal will team with Joe Staley to form a fantastic interior that both Frank Gore and Alex Smith will love. Not sexy, but 2 solid picks for Coach Singletary.
18. Pittsburgh (9-7)-Maurkice Pouncey(OL/C)-Florida
Big ben was sacked 50 times last season and that’s not counting in court (Bada Bing). Adding interior OL help is necessary for this run orientated offense.
19. Atlanta (9-7)- Brandon Graham(DE)-Michigan
Not the tallest. Not the fastest. Heck, maybe not even the strongest. All this guy did was produce in one of the toughest conferences in college football. Great value for one of the up and coming teams.
20. Houston (9-7)-Ryan Matthews(RB)-Fresno St
Steve Slaton’s fumbling issues make the Texans look to take a responsible ball carrier to compliment Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson.
21. Cincinnati (10-6)-Jermaine Gresham(TE)-Oklahoma
A huge groan comes from 1 Winning Dr. Gresham gives Carson Palmer the TE he’s been missing for years.
22. New England (10-6)- Jared Odrick(DT)-Penn St
Pats need to upgrade a defense that Belichick couldn’t trust. Odrick is huge and can team with Wilfolk to stop the run.
23. Green Bay (11-5)-Anthony Davis(OT)-Rutgers
Davis might have felt the biggest free fall, but if you have to fall anywhere, Lambeau Field isn’t a bad place for a stud OT to land. Great value for a team that should compete for the NFC north title
24. Philadelphia (11-5)-Taylor Mays(S)-USC
Not having found a replacement for Brian Dawkins, the Eagles take Mays and hopes he’s as good as he looks in games. Because his combine was terrible.
25. Baltimore (9-7)-Rob Gronkowski(TE)-Arizona
Ozzie wanted Gresham, but “Gronko’ is no bridesmaid. Todd Heap can mentor this fellow “desert” TE into Joe Flacco’s new security blanket and give Ray Rice a break.
26. Arizona (10-6)-Sergio Kindle(LB)-Texas
With the losses the Cards have had this off-season, drafting a solid linebacker from Texas can give fans in the desert reasons to smile again.
27. Dallas (11-5)-Rodger Safford(OT)-Indiana
This is a spot I could see the Cowboys moving out of, but if they have to make a pick Safford is the best tackle available. Safford makes 6 tackles taken in the first round.
28. San Diego (13-3)-Terrace Cody(DT) Bama’
Most people think my beloved Bolts need a replacement for the great L.T. Not me. With Jamal Williams in Denver, the Bolts need someone to clog the middle. But will Cody remain in shape?
29. New York Jets (9-7)-Golden Tate(WR)-Notre Dame
What a perfect fit for this combine hero to land. Golden in NY sounds too good to be true. But will his game live up to his name?
30. Minnesota (12-4)-Devin McCourty(CB)-Rutgers
The second Scarlet Knight is selected in the first round as the Vikings look to shore up their pass D that seemed to hurt them in the NFC Championship game.
31. Indianapolis (14-2)-Charles Brown (OT)-USC
Another solid tackle off the board as the Colts continue to build a wall behind Peyton Manning.
32. New Orleans* (13-3)-Carlos Dunlap(LB)-Florida
To end the first “Primetime” draft night, the defending champs take a chance on tremendous player with questionable character.
