Times Square was evacuated this weekend after a t-shirt vendor noticed smoke coming from a parked SUV.  The NYPD showed the world why they make movies and TV shows about that Police Department.  They got people out of harm’s way quickly and dismantled the device. 

The problem I have with the event was the way it was spun by the NYC Mayor.  Bloomberg said that the device itself was  amateurish leading the public to believe that it was a novice who parked the car bomb.  The reality is that all domestic terrorists use amateur devices. Think about Oklahoma City, WTC ’93and all the IEDs used against our troops overseas.  They are all home made by what you would call amateurs but are extremely deadly. The attack in Oklahoma City killed 168 people and WTC ’93 killed 6 and wounded over 1000. Both of these attacks were carried out with “amateur” weapons.  Don’t be fooled, terrorists learn how to make lethal weapons from things readily available by the nature of their business.

This latest attempt should simply serve as a reminder that there are people out there that want to kill us and our families and are working hard at that every day.

I’m not trying to cause a panic I simply want you to be vigilant and not eat the pabulum fed to you by politicians.  We are still in danger and this weekend’s scare in Times Square should not be taken lightly.
