I just missed the Rick Dempsey visit so I listened on line. Bulldog is entitled to his opinion no matter how wrong it may be. Rick when asked too gives more insight into the fundamentals of the game than most. Do you expect him to criticize players on air, every night, because that is what he would have to do. He understands pitching, defense and and the nuances of the game. Bulldog’s opinion on this is no better than anyone else who watched every game, listens to the pre and post game shows or attends 13-15 games a year. (I pay for all my tickets.) Bulldog was way off base on his comments and his speaking loudly did not make him more correct. He only sounded more foolish. The Dodgers and the Phillies both understood the need to get home grown managerial talent who understood the history of the team. Torre was a Dodger!, Bowa was a Phillie and Giradi was a Yankee and Dempsey is an Oriole and would make a damn good manager. Bulldog that is not emotion talking but the facts. Our great managers game from our system, Weaver, Altobelli and Johnson.

    Mark,
Good job in letting Rick Dempsey tell Baltimore about his views about the Orioles and the upcoming manager.
I strongly believe that Rick Dempsey, as the Baltimore Orioles Manager, could lead this team to winning seasons and be viable in the post-season contender.

aren’t we all a little sick of this guy.I mean he does nothing but undermines each manager he can.and instead of actively managing somewhere in some organization at any level.no he would rather moan and groan how the various management here does not see him fit to manage the team.if he did the above and prove them wrong then ok,but he managed years ago and won a championship.big deal.does anyone remember Davie Johnson banished to the bullpen to get him out of his hair in L.A..And the fans here who think Earl Weaver won by yelling at umps, which somehow Good Old Mr Dempsey beleive as well. And why if he has soooooo much toooo offer doesn’t all the teams come running to get at all his leadership and knowledge.maybe the same reason Greg Zaun goes from team to team to team.look when got rid of a catcher who did we get rid Ole Zaunnie.maybe the apple doesn’t far from the uncle tree.
I thought at the end there the Bulldog hit on the head and Rickie might start to cry.
And why hasn’t Andy McFail called Rick,to me shows he has good sense.
I hope this time when doesn’t get the job he’ll either leave town, shut up for good,or go get a good coaching /managing in the minors and earn a job somewhere instead of expecting it to be given to them.
    I am out.

Rick has class. Bulldog doesn’t. He reminds me of a Yankee fan.

I love the O’s,since 1965 at 8 years old thru good times and bad.But really who are you-bulldogs roomate.I hate to say it but Andy hasn’t lit the team on fire.At this point I’d take Rick over dave or his replacement,it sure cant hurt

I couldn’t of said it better!!! Way to go

  • Rick M.

    Listen,
If Rick wants the job that badly and has for years, then I say give him the job. Who would want this job??
If Rick gets the job, he better realize that he is going to lose his hair and that he will ultimately be fired just like all the rest.
I think Juan Samuel is quickly realizing it and will be happy to go back to coaching.
No manager is going to turn this team around. The only thing that is goiung to turn this team around, is good scouting, bringing in high quality players, and Angelos being willing to empty his pockets.
Give Rick Dempsey the job so that he can get it out of his system. Many others have.

think that Dempsey would bring the spark that the O’s need!!!
Rick Dempsey is what Baltimore is all about. This is a man that many of us grew up watching. Always fighting for that win. Do you all remember the O’s when Rick played… We were somebody. When the teams came to Baltimore they knew they had a fight on their hands. The O’s were going work and play and fight for the win. Now it’s not so. Teams come to Baltimore to get another Win. If Rick Demspey is willing to fight for the job….GIVE IT TO HIM!!! The O’s need some fight, need some pride, THEY NEED RICK, BALTIMORE NEEDS RICK, THE FANS NEEDS RICK!!! WHAT THE HECK IT NOT LIKE HE CAN BE ANY WORSE. And Andy if you think that Rick is going steal your thunder about rebuilding this team your dead wrong. The fans know what your trying to do, and we understand the whole process. Now you have laid the wood, the fire is ready to be lit….hire Rick and let the sparks fly!!! This town will be HOT for the O’s once more. You will be a Hero for breathing life back into this team. Bulldog take a note when reach the levels in your career that Rick has reach is his then you can judge him … until then Shut Your Hole!!!! Rick is in our hearts because he has done us proud!!! That man hs brought the sweetests tears to our eyes, a chest full of pride, he has made fans dreams come true!!! You have not and for you to speak that way about one of greatest players to put on an O’s uniform BBBOOOOO TO YOU Bulldog

Jason. Well said. I started to type that same reply but my pc went down…I guess warning me about the flack we will get when Ken reads this.

Ken..move on. You stated your piece, well said, but the rest of us love Rick Dempsey and that’s that!!

  • Ken

The Bulldog is the only one who makes sense in all of this.Let ask any of you out here have you ever managed a group of people.I doubt it.To say Trembley was stupid shows how ignorant you must be.Maybe just maybe the Orioles management lets see theres been what 5 general managers and none, none has seen fit to give him the keys. But oh no Mr Dempsey deserves this job, based on what?,Sliding around the field, undermining other managers. At least McFail appears to know better than give this bum a interview. Please all you who want him as manager go back to south Baltimore and try not to get shot.
    I am out.

“Maybe just maybe the Orioles management lets see theres been what 5 general managers and none, none has seen fit to give him the keys.”

And those GM’s that passed up Dempsey have also led this franchise to our 13 year period of “success”. All the more reason to give him a shot. To borrow from George Costanza, “if everything I do is wrong than the opposite would have to be right.” Right?
