Fire The Bird?

Fire The Bird?OK, they are the worst team in baseball.  Is it time to fire the bird?

I ask because the 2nd worst team in MLB shook things up this weekend by firing their mascot.  The Pittsburgh Pirates fired Andrew Kurtz.  Kurtz, 24, was one of 18 folks who get paid $25 about 4 times a month to dress up as a pierogi for a mid-game race.  Not all 18 work at once, of course.  4 per game manage duties.

After posting disparaging remarks about the Bucs and the contract extensions of Manager John Russell and GM Neal Huntington, Kurtz was asked to turn in his tights.

What a shake-up for a team that is 25-44.  Front page news.  And, it worked!!! The Pirates were on a 10-game slid prior to panning the pierogi.  Now?  Two-game win streak!

Fire the bird NOW.

PS:  What is a Pierogi?  Boiled, baked or fried dumplings of dough stuffed with a mashed-potato-like mix or sometimes cheese, saurkraut or various mixtures.  It’s a slice of Heaven – especially when fried in onions and butter.  Enjoy.

Perhaps, if the DID fire the bird. Then Garret Atkins could put on the costume and at least get on the field a little bit…and contribute something…
