Baltimore Police have recovered the animals stolen from a nature center, but they still don’t know who took them in the first place. Weijia Jiang has more on this latest development.
The sounds and exotic sights of the Carrie Murray Nature Center are at the center of a police investigation.
“I can’t believe it. I mean, it was amazing,” said Carin Parks.
Parks, the park administrator, is still shaken up after the Baltimore City-run facility was robbed twice. Police say over the weekend, someone snatched up five turtles, a large iguana, two geckoes and a few hissing cockroaches. Then, Monday night, two baby chameleons were taken.
“They’re our kids, basically. These are animals that come in here abused. They’ve been burned, they’ve been malnutritioned,” Parks said.
Employees say the intruder ripped away the window screen next to the side door, then slid the window open, which was unlocked. Finally, they reached in to push the door from the inside so it would open on the outside.
