Firefighters Battle Three-Alarm Fire In Canton

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A fire investigation is underway in Canton.

As Adam May reports, one person suffered non life-threatening burns and some businesses will be closed during clean up.

Almost half a dozen homes and businesses near the gateway to Canton, right off Boston Street, were damaged by a three-alarm fire early Sunday morning.

"Upon arriving here in the location, we found a two story brick occupied dwelling with heavy fire on the second floor," said police spokesperson, Kevin Cartwright.

Even with 90 firefighters on the scene, the blaze spread fast. It damaged a restaurant and hair salon.

"I've been here approximately 20 years. I acquired this building from a fire, back in the 60s and it completely burned down. I never thought after I rebuilt it I'd be going through this now," said Frank Calabrese, owner of Calabrese Salon.

Calabrese lived right above his salon. Even though his home and business were damaged, his staff vows to reopen soon.

"The holidays are here and we're going to be doing as much as we can to get this business running," said one employee.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
