Harbor Hospital Crowned Meltdown Winner

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- If you were at Jimmy's in Fells Point Monday morning you had plenty of company. WJZ hosted the 12th annual Mammoth Manic Monday Meltdown.

Ron Matz reports a new champion was crowned and it brought out a huge crowd for one of Baltimore's most popular holiday events.

Their voices were strong, the crowd was huge and the people were excited. Harbor Hospital took home the Valentino for the 2010 best performance.

"Harbor Hospital is the best hospital in Baltimore and we have the best O.R. team around and we had a good time. We practiced every morning and it just brought us all together. It started out as the operating room and it actually turned out to be the whole hospital and MedStar pitching in for us, so it really caught on," said Debbie Kulak, Harbor Hospital Center.

Jacobsville Elementary School and North Carroll High won the Spirit Awards.

"Thank you so much. This has meant so much to the students at North Carroll. We have had so much fun and so much spirit all week. We really appreciate this," said Lynn Runk of North Carroll High School.

The Blast Cheerleaders cheered the crowd on again in front of Jimmy's.

"We appreciate being invited every year. It's a great thing to come down to Baltimore and support our fans and WJZ," said Brittany, Baltimore Blast.

It was the biggest crowd ever.

"It's a great crowd. We thank everyone for coming out. The weather's great. We want to thank everybody at home for tuning in and being part of this. Hopefully every Manic Monday we put a little smile on your face as you wake up," said Jay Newman, WJZ's general manager.

Good friends all around made this a meltdown to remember.

This year more than 38,000 votes were cast at WJZ.COM, which is a new record total.
