Md. Man Sentenced In National Archives Scheme

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A man who worked for the National Archives and Records Administration has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for a scheme to steal almost $1 million from the federal government.

James Clay Whitson of Notthingham, Md., was sentenced Monday and will also have to repay the approximately $960,000 he stole.

Whitson worked at an archive facility in College Park. According to a plea agreement, from 2002 to 2006 he used a government card to pay for goods and services that were never provided or provided at lower prices than Whitson charged on the card. Another person involved in the scheme, Robert Caleb McCray, of Silver Spring, had previously pleaded guilty and also received 15 months in prison.
