Kizer, Hawkins Lead No. 22 Terps Over Loyola 79-61

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Lynetta Kizer scored a season-high 21 points, Tianna Hawkins added 17 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 22 Maryland won its seventh straight game, 79-61 over Loyola of Maryland on Tuesday night.

The Terrapins (8-1) took control by ending the first half on a 32-7 run and won despite the absence of second-leading scorer Alyssa Thomas, who sat out with a knee laceration.

Erica DiClemente led the Greyhounds (2-6) with a career-high 22 points. Miriam McKenzie added 12 points and Alyssa Sutherland had 10.

Maryland is 17-3 all-time against the Greyhounds and has beaten their in-state rivals 11 straight times.

Loyola, which had a two-game win streak snapped, shot 19 for 57 (33 percent) and hit only 8 of 29 3-point attempts.

Without Thomas, the Terrapins struggled early to find their rhythm. Successive jumpers by McKenzie and DiClemente produced a 16-11 Loyola lead with 11:06 remaining in the first half.

But Kizer converted from the baseline to start the decisive run, Maryland's defense clamped down on the smaller Greyhounds and the Terrapins grabbed a 43-23 halftime lead.

Loyola was 7 for 30 from the floor in the first half and started 0 for 14 from beyond the arc.
