Plea Deal For Mom Who Used Betts' Credit Card

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The mother of a teen involved in a robbery that led to the death of a middle school principal has pleaded guilty to two counts of credit card theft.

As part of a plea agreement Artura Otey Williams pleaded guilty Tuesday in Montgomery County Circuit Court, and three other charges were dropped. Williams faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison on each charge.

Williams' son, Sharif Tau Lancaster, has pleaded guilty to robbery and using a handgun in the commission of a crime in the case surrounding murdered middle school principal Brian Betts. He will be sentenced in February.

Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy says Williams had nothing to do with Betts' murder but got one of his credit cards from her son and was later observed using it.
