Broken Water Pipe Displaces 60 People In Md.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say about 60 people have been displaced from their homes after losing heat and water.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Maurice Witt says firefighters were called to the Governor Square Apartments complex on Muddy Branch Road on Tuesday about 10:15 p.m. where they discovered a broken boiler pipe.

Witt says several units suffered water damage. Water and electricity were shut off to the apartments, and therefore fire officials declared the building unsafe. Residents from all 18 apartments in the building were forced to leave.

Fire department Assistant Chief Scott Graham says all the residents have found shelter elsewhere.
