Md., D.C. Foreclosures Down In November
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A national foreclosure tracking company says November foreclosure filings were down more than the national average in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Irvine, Calif.-based Realtytrac says foreclosures were down more than 83 percent in the district and more than 78 percent in Maryland. Realtytrac says foreclosures were down 14 percent nationwide compared with November 2009.
The company says the national drop was the highest since it began publishing the U.S. foreclosure report in January 2005. The company says that in addition to a typical November seasonal drop, lenders and servicers are changing procedures in response to the "robo-signing" controversy in which mortgage issuers were accused of speeding through foreclosures without properly checking paperwork.
