EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Frederick County authorities are accusing an Emmitsburg woman of arson for allegedly setting fire to her home in an apparent suicide attempt.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday it has issued a criminal summons charging Denise Ruggiero, 42, with first-degree arson.

Investigators say Ruggiero set fires early Tuesday in an upstairs bedroom and the downstairs living room of her house on Timbermill Run. They found a suicide note in the kitchen.

Ruggiero was found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom and treated for smoke inhalation.
