Giant Anteater Born At D.C. Zoo

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Zoo in Washington has a new giant anteater baby.

The zoo says the anteater was born Dec. 7 and is a male. He is the third giant anteater born at the zoo to its female giant anteater, Maripi. Maripi and her mate, Dante, have lived at the zoo since 2006 and are on loan from the Nashville Zoo.

The giant anteater's natural habitat is the grassland savannas, swamps and wetlands of Latin America from Belize to Argentina.
