Motown Band To Help Md. Bring In The New Year

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- We're just a couple of days away from the midnight extravaganza at the Inner Harbor welcoming in the New Year.  WJZ will broadcast the fireworks live.

Mike Schuh has a look at the band helping to keep the crowd in a festive mood.

Combine an earful of rich, velvety Motown with the percussion from the New Year's midnight fireworks explosion, and you get the band playing on New Year's Eve: the Motorettes.

"We are a six-piece Motown soul-inspired ensemble. We play mostly classics of fun pop music from the 50s and 60s," said Aran Keating of The Motorettes.

For the past 12 years, WJZ has been honored to bring you this celebration.  Prior to and as long as the fireworks are up in the sky, you can see every moment on WJZ.

As for the Motorettes, their gig starts at 9 p.m. for a huge audience.

"The Baltimore Office of the Arts saw us or heard about us and it's a big show and we're all excited about it. We've played there before, but it's a big show and it should be a lot of fun," said Jennifer Tydings of The Motorettes.

You can see the Ports America New Year's Eve Spectacular on WJZ starting at 11 p.m. Friday.
