O'Malley Appoints Watts To Special Appeals Court

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley has appointed Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Shirley Watts to Maryland's Court of Special Appeals, the state's intermediate appellate court.

O'Malley announced Wednesday that Watts has been appointed to fill a vacancy in the Sixth Appellate Judicial Circuit, which represents Baltimore. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Arrie Davis.

Watts has served as been an associate judge for Baltimore Circuit Court since 2002. She began her legal career practicing criminal law. She served as an assistant state's attorney for Baltimore for four years. She then spent nine years in the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland.
