3-Alarm Blaze Damages Edgewater Restaurant

EDGEWATER, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a three-alarm fire has caused extensive damage to a family-owned German restaurant in Edgewater.

The fire at The Old Stein Inn in the 1100 block of Central Avenue was discovered by a passer-by about 5:30 a.m. Friday, and grew to a three-alarm blaze before it was contained.

Lt. Cliff Kooser of the Anne Arundel County fire department says firefighters from the Naval Academy and Annapolis helped fight the fire. He says the restaurant sustained significant damage.

According to the restaurant's website, the Old Stein Inn was opened in 1983 by a couple from Germany.

No one was injured in the fire, and its cause is under investigation.
