Homicide Inside Md. Hospital, Killer On The Loose

BETHESDA, Md. (WJZ) -- Murder inside a Maryland hospital. A male employee was found stabbed to death at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.

Adam May reports that police are still searching for the killer.

Montgomery County police swarmed Suburban Hospital in Bethesda on New Year's morning after a man was discovered dead inside the building— with severe trauma to his upper body.

"He was pronounced dead on the scene. Montgomery County Police are conducting this suspicious death as a homicide investigation," said Lucille Baur, Montgomery County Police.

The victim is a 40-year-old man who worked at the hospital since 2006. He was found in an area of Suburban that is off limits to patients and visitors.

Police put the hospital on lockdown for four hours as they searched for the attacker.

"It was pretty chaotic at first but it got under control," said Kate Silverman, Suburban patient." There were a lot of cops everywhere."

Investigators didn't find a suspect and gave the all clear by mid-afternoon.

"The police conducted a thorough investigation from top to bottom, and they feel confident that there's no danger at Suburban Hospital for patients, visitors or staff," said Ronna Borenstein-Levy, Suburban Hospital spokesperson.

The victim's body is at the medical examiner's office here in Baltimore for an autopsy.
