Hopkins Given $30M For New Engineering Building

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Johns Hopkins University says a $30 million gift from Liberty Media Chairman John C. Malone will be used to build a new engineering building where information technology will be applied to cancer treatment.

The university says engineers, medical researchers and scientists working in the new building planned for the school's Homewood campus will use information technology to try to create individualized cancer treatment plans.

The gift from the 69-year-old Malone, who received master's and doctoral degrees from Hopkins in the 1960s, is the largest ever to the university's Whiting School of Engineering. Construction of the four-story building is expected to begin next year.
