Man Hit, Killed While Crossing Road In Fairfax Co.

MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) -- Fairfax County police say a man has been hit by a vehicle and killed in the Mount Vernon area.

Police say the man was crossing Richmond Highway, just north of Janna Lee Avenue, on Saturday night when he was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The man, who was in his 50s, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where was pronounced dead.

Authorities say the driver, a 58-year-old Maryland man, remained on the scene. Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. No charges have been filed.
