Shooting In Northeast Baltimore Leaves Man Walking Dog Dead

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There's been a sudden spike in violence to start the new year.  Three people were killed in Baltimore in three days.  The latest was an autistic man out walking his dog.

Weijia Jiang spoke with the victim's brother.

Hezekiah Wilson, 38, lost his life Sunday night outside of his own home.  Police surrounded the 5600-block of Plymouth Road in Baltimore around 7:30 p.m.  They say Wilson had just been walking his dog, Quincy, in the yard when someone shot him in the shoulder.

"This was just done by somebody callous with an evil heart, evil intent, no respect for human life," said Frankie Wilson.

Frankie Wilson says his older brother was autistic and had no enemies, that he rarely even left the house.  Hezekiah devoted his life to caring for their sick mother, who he lived with.  Frankie remembers the last time the two talked, less than 24 hours before the shooting.

"He loved the Ravens and I would call him and we'd talk about the game after every Sunday.  We're not gonna do that anymore," he said.

Detectives have no possible motives at this point, but they do not believe this was a robbery gone bad.  They say Wilson was wearing his robe and slippers at the time of the shooting, so there was nothing on him to take.

"Cases like this are very heartfelt.  This victim was autistic.  He never did anyone wrong; he posed no threat.  He was minding his business," said Donny Moses, Baltimore City Police.

The Wilson family, still trying to understand a senseless crime, asks for help solving it.

"Please let us know what's going on.  My brother never hurt anybody.  All he did was take care of my mother and he was taken from us for no reason.  Whoever did this could do it to somebody in your family," Frankie Wilson said.

Police are also investigating the deaths of a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old, the other two homicides for 2011.
