Sentence Reduced For Man In Beating Death

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Washington County Circuit judge has reduced the sentence of a man who pleaded guilty to the 2004 beating death of a Hagerstown man.

Justin Marshall, 23, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the death of Curtis Hill Sr., 46. He petitioned the court to have his sentence modified.

Judge Donald E. Beachley recently reduced Marshall's sentence to 21 years in prison. He said Marshall, who was 17 when he committed the crime, has made positive progress in prison and accepted full responsibility for the crime. The judge also said the original sentence exceeded sentencing guidelines.

Larry Shriner also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying. His petition for a sentence modification was denied.
