Firefighter Killed In Apartment Blaze Honored

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A volunteer firefighter who died in an apartment blaze in Parkville has been awarded the Baltimore County Fire Department's medal of honor. 

The award given to Mark Falkenhan is the fire department's highest commendation and is given for performing acts of
extraordinary heroism or bravery.  

Falkenhan became trapped while searching for residents inside a third-story apartment during a four-alarm fire Wednesday night. He died at a hospital. 

A viewing is planned from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Ruhl Armory in Towson. 

Funeral services will take place Monday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore.
