OAKLAND, Md. (AP) — Authorities are looking for a man considered armed and dangerous who escaped from the Garrett County jail in Oakland.

The sheriff’s office says Deandre Kelly, 29, of Washington assaulted two correctional officers and forced them to open an exit door by producing what appeared to be a handgun shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.

The agency says Kelly was being held on $100,000 bond since his arrest Saturday for alleged drug and firearm violations and lying to police.

The sheriff’s office says Kelly apparently has left the area.

The FBI is assisting local and state authorities in the investigation.

Last night, Jan. 23, 2011, everyone in Oakland, Md and the outlaying townships were on high alert, including my family and I. My boyfriend and I sat up till almost midnight and texting our friends back and forth on where the chopper with the spot light was. We were told to lock all doors and windows and if we saw or heard anything suspicious outside to call the police dept straight away. It’s a terrifying idea that there was someone armed and dangerous lurking around outside. Hopefully the police find this man and lock him up for good.

At least we still have our rights to own firearms, and rottweilers!! With that I felt safe!! Just think they are triing to take both away! That would not, be a good feeling to have, nowing that only the bad guys have guns! As the saying goes, if guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have guns!!!
