OAKLAND, Md. (AP) — A state delegate from western Maryland is reintroducing a bill in the General Assembly to enable Garrett County to regulate wind turbines.
Garrett County Republican Wendell Beitzel said Tuesday that the measure would allow Garrett County to prohibit wind turbines within certain distances of other properties.
It also would enable the county to collect fees for demolishing wind turbines that are abandoned or broken.
The legislature’s approval is needed because Garrett County has no countywide land-use zoning.
Beitzel is trying for the third straight year to get the bill passed.
