Montgomery Co. Told To Reconsider Charter Schools

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Board of Education has directed the Montgomery County school system to reconsider its decision to reject two charter school applications.

The state board found Tuesday that the Montgomery Board of Education failed to adequately explain why it turned down bids from Global Gardens Public Charter School and Crossway Community. It has to give the local board 90 days to revisit its decision.

A Montgomery County schools spokesman says the local board will review the matter and "respond in a timely manner."

Montgomery is the largest school system in the state and does not have any independently operated charter schools.
