O'Malley Says Utility Reliability To Be Issue
HANOVER, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley says one of Maryland's biggest challenges from the snowstorm is that about 230,000 people remain without electricity.
O'Malley, in a briefing Thursday a day after the storm, says utility reliability standards will be an issue during the legislative session in Annapolis. The administration is exploring options for legislation.
O'Malley has been urging the Maryland Public Service Commission to adopt reliability standards.
Last year, the PSC held public hearings on the reliability and quality of Pepco, a utility that has been criticized over electrical power outages that have lasted for days after storms.
Pepco serves customers in Washington, and Prince George's and Montgomery counties.
