Police Close To Confirming Suspect's Identity

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police are close to confirming the identity of a suspected bank robber who was shot and killed by police on Friday.

Police said Sunday that they've received information from the employer and the landlord of the probable suspect. A search of the man's apartment uncovered an additional gun.

Police say the suspect's name will be released once relatives who live outside the area are notified and a fingerprint analysis is complete.

The man took a female bank employee hostage during the robbery Friday morning and used her as a shield when he exited the bank.

After a dye pack exploded, he lost his balance and slipped on some ice, allowing the hostage to break free. The man ran after her with his gun drawn, and three Takoma Park police officers and three Prince George's County police officers opened fire.
