Car Accident Snarls 83 Traffic During Rush Hour

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A car ran off the JFX and landed on its side, just inches from the light rail tracks.  The accident happened Monday night, stopping traffic on the road and the rails.

Kai Jackson explains what happened.

This accident sent two people to the hospital and snarled rush hour traffic.

Sky Eye Chopper 13 was over the nasty accident next to the JFX in Baltimore.  The city fire department says for some reason, an SUV heading north veered off the road over a jersey wall and flipped down a 10-foot embankment next to the light rail tracks near the Cold Spring station.

Rescue crews rushed to the scene.  Firefighters say a man and a woman in the SUV were trapped.

Rush hour traffic was snarled.

Tanya Bennett got a call from her daughter, who was delayed on a train.  She arrived minutes later.

"A car flipped over the barricade," said Krystal Bennett.  "It was completely totaled."

The woman and man were taken to Sinai Hospital in serious condition. There's no word on what caused the accident.

The city fire department says no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
