Fire At Public Works Complex Destroys Equipment

FRUITLAND, Md. (AP) -- Fruitland officials say a fire at the Public Works complex has caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

City Manager Rick Konrad says Monday morning's fire, in a storage shed in a garage area, was discovered by a police officer who was fueling his cruiser. It took about 40 minutes for firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

Konrad says equipment that was destroyed includes two tractors, two large mowers, a large pump and a utility vehicle. The fire is under investigation.
