Md. Fans Subdued After Blowout To Duke
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- A year after Maryland fans' rowdy celebration following a victory over basketball rival Duke, subdued crowds watched the Terps lose in a blowout to the Blue Devils.
Police added extra officers in the college town ahead of the game and the school planned structured events, including a postgame bonfire.
But after the 80-62 loss, fans streamed out of bars along U.S. Route 1 in College Park on Wednesday night and instead of starting fires or getting into confrontations with police, they headed home or to the bonfire.
About 200 people milled around watching the bonfire on a lawn in front of the campus' chapel.
