BLOG:Mild Air Now, Arctic Air Soon

What a deserved break we got in the weather today! Sunshine took over and we warmed all the way up to 47 degrees. Enjoy the mild air now, because a new round of Arctic air is coming our way this week - courtesy of a new storm.

Clouds will take over tomorrow as the next storm moves our way. Some rain will break out tomorrow evening/early tomorrow night, and then change over to snow overnight. This is not going to be a big storm for us. There is not a lot of moisture and it will not come down very heavy. Combine that with temperatures only dropping to just around freezing, and a lot of roads will just be wet through Tuesday morning. The storm will get out of here early Tuesday, but that's when the cold air comes rushing in. Temperatures will only top out in the upper 30s Tuesday before dropping into the teens Tuesday night. The cold air will stick around Wednesday and Thursday with highs still just in the mid 30s. Then yet another storm will move into this cold air Thursday.

There has been a lot of talk about the next storm on Thursday. The center will pass off to the south of us before quickly moving out to sea by Friday. We will watch to see if the path changes with this one, but at this point it does not look like it will give us much.

One particularly good long-term forecaster, Joe Bastardi from Accuweather, really believes that this week will break the back of winter. It's not to say that we are done with Arctic outbreaks or that we won't see any wintry weather again this season, but that this would be a distinct turn in the weather pattern coming our way. Stay tuned...
