Md. Man Convicted Of Killing Del. Police Officer

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) -- A jury has found a Maryland man guilty of killing a Georgetown police officer.

The jury returned the verdict Tuesday afternoon against Derrick Powell, 23, of Cumberland, Md. in the 2009 shooting of Patrolman Chad Spicer.

He was convicted of felony murder, but was acquitted of a charge of recklessly killing a police officer in the line of duty.

Powell could face the death penalty. The penalty phase of the trial will begin Thursday morning.

Spicer's parents say they believe justice was served for their son. But Ruth Ann Spicer refused to comment on prospects for Powell receiving the death penalty.
