Md. Police Identify Slain State Prison Inmate
CRESAPTOWN, Md. (AP) -- State police are releasing the name of a Maryland prison inmate who was slain at the Western Correctional Institution near Cumberland.
Police said Tuesday he was Blas Ramon Mata Aguilar, 41.
Spokesman Greg Shipley says authorities located Aguilar's daughter and ex-wife in Chemung County,N.Y., and informed them of his death.
State police are investigating the incident.
Prison officials say a staff member found Aguilar unresponsive in his cell last Wednesday.
An autopsy determined that he died from blunt force trauma and asphyxiation.
Aguilar was serving 11 years for second-degree rape and third-degree sexual offense convictions in Montgomery County, and a second-degree assault conviction in Anne Arundel County.
