Police: Car Crashed After Man Attacked His Girlfriend

WHITE MARSH, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police made a surprising discovery after a bizarre crash on the Beltway.  Early Sunday morning near I-95, they found a man pinned down by his friends who said the man was trying to kill them.

Adam May reports on the violent confrontation inside and outside the vehicle.

The suspect was traveling in an SUV with three other people.  Police say he tried strangling his girlfriend in the backseat.  Eventually, the three people got out of the SUV and the suspect tried running them over repeatedly.

Two couples riding home from a party along the outer loop of the Beltway ended up in a violent struggle, resulting in one of the passengers facing attempted murder charges.

"The driver told troopers his acquaintance in the backseat tried strangling his girlfriend," said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police.

State police say the suspect then tried throwing the woman from the SUV before the driver hit the brakes and pulled over.

"All four individuals got out of the car when the suspect started acting unpredictable and said he was killing all three of them," Shipley said.

That man is identified as Augustis Jung-Kai Gray, 25.  No one answered the door at his last known address near Parkville.  It's just miles from where police say Gray jumped behind the wheel of the SUV.

"The suspect drove back and forth across the Beltway, trying to run over the women on the side of the road," he said.

Eventually, the vehicle crashed into a barrier and the original driver held down Gray until police arrived.

Gray is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $500,000 bond.

On top of attempted murder, the suspect faces a long list of charges, including driving under the influence.
