Md. Bill Would Raise Stakes For Rocky Gap Slots

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Some state lawmakers want Maryland to offer a greater enticement to prospective operators of slot machines at Rocky Gap State Park.

A bill introduced Wednesday by three western Maryland delegates and one from Montgomery County would boost the operator's share of revenue from Rocky Gap slots to 50 percent from 35.5 percent.

The General Assembly raised the rate from 33 percent last year after Rocky Gap failed to attract legitimate bidders for a state gaming license.

Casinos have begun operating in Perryville and near Ocean City since Marylanders approved slots at five sites in 2008.

A license also has been awarded in Anne Arundel County, and a bid on a Baltimore site is currently in dispute.
