North Carolina State Tops Coppin State 77-75

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Nick Chasten scored on a layup with eight-tenths of a second left, lifting North Carolina Central to a 77-75 victory over Coppin State on Monday night.

The win gave North Carolina Central (12-11) a sweep of the season series and prevented it from losing back-to-back games for the first time since early January. North Carolina has joined the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but its official conference schedule doesn't begin until the 2011-12 season, sparing Coppin State a conference loss.

C.J. Wilkerson led North Carolina Central with 21 points, Landon Clement had 19 and Chasten 16. The game-winning layup came off an inbound pass from Emmanuel Chapman, who led Central with eight assists.

Coppin State led by as many as nine in the first half, while North Carolina Central never led by more than four.

Michael Harper led Coppin State (12-12) with 21 points.
