Bay Foundation: House Budget Has Devastating Cuts

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The president of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation says the federal budget proposed by the House Appropriations Committee would make devastating cuts to clean water programs.

William Baker says that budget would cut by 20 percent funding for the Chesapeake Bay Program, a state-federal program to restore the bay. Baker says President Barack Obama's proposal, which calls for a 35 percent increase in the budget, honors a federal commitment to achieve pollution reduction goals.

Obama traveled to a Baltimore County middle school on Monday to outline his budget proposal.

Baker says the foundation is urging the Senate to reject the House proposal and support funding the president's budget.
