Bill Seeks To Spread Word About Electric Choices

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Legislation in Maryland is aiming to raise awareness about competitive electricity choices.

Sens. Catherine Pugh, D-Baltimore, Norman Stone, D-Baltimore County, and Delegate Dereck Davis, D-Prince George's, have introduced legislation again this year that would have the Maryland Public Service Commission do more to educate consumers about options to choose electricity suppliers.

Pugh said Tuesday many consumers just don't know they can shop around. She says the PSC should coordinate with television and radio stations to issue public service announcements calling attention to how consumers can search for cheaper energy choices.

The legislation has the backing of the Retail Energy Supply Association, a trade association of retail energy suppliers.
