James Madison Tops Towson 72-61

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Denzel Bowles scored a career-high 40 points and James Madison pulled away from Towson late in the second half for a 72-61 win Tuesday night. 

Bowles, a 6'10" senior forward who came in averaging 18.0 points per game, scored 20 points and shot 7 of 10 from the field in each half. 

He also was 12 of 17 from the free-throw line in posting the seventh 40-point performance in Dukes history. 

With James Madison (19-9, 9-7 Colonial Athletic Association) holding a 50-49 lead with 9:44 remaining, Bowles scored 10 points over the next 4:44. Chad Jackson followed with a layup to give the Dukes a 62-57 lead with 4:17 to play. 

James Madison, which beat the Tigers 99-68 on Jan. 5, held Towson without a basket for the final 5:16. 

Devon Moore added 14 points for the Dukes. 

Isaiah Philmore scored 18 to pace the Tigers (4-22, 0-16), who have lost 15 straight.
