Spending Plan Doesn't Include $150M For Metro

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A spending plan Congress is working on to fund the federal government through September does not currently include $150 million that Metro had been promised to improve safety.

In 2008 Congress passed the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act, promising $1.5 billion over 10 years for upgrades.

But on Tuesday an amendment by Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat, to restore the funding in fiscal year 2011 was killed by Republicans.

The budget President Barack Obama unveiled earlier this week for fiscal year 2012 does include the $150 million payment.
