Car Jumps Curb, Hits Toddler In Harford Co.

BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ)—Tense moments in Harford County after a car jumps a curb, flies onto a sidewalk and hits a toddler.

Kai Jackson spoke with a neighbor who ran to help the child.

It appears the child is going to be OK, but family and witnesses say the ordeal was frightening.

Sky Eye Chopper 13 is over Salinoca Court in Bel Air. A crowd gathers and neighbors are stunned by what just happened.

"It was real scary for me because I thought my daughter was involved," said Tim Jones, spectator. "I thought my daughter was struck."

Witnesses say sometime after 5 p.m., a car was left running by the driver. It rolled down hill and hit a young child standing in the front yard.

"The woman who owned the car I guess was running down after it, put it park. I was looking underneath to make sure nobody was pinned underneath because I heard a lot of crying. I couldn't account for all the kids, including my own," Jones said.

After the car hit the child and jumped the curb, neighbors rushed in to help—including a nurse. Jones' wife gave aid to the child until paramedics arrived. He was bruised and crying, but otherwise appeared to be OK.

"My wife's an RN and she started caring for the kid until the ambulance arrived," Jones said. "Everybody in the whole neighborhood was pretty freaked out about it."

The child's name and age are not known at the time. No one else was hurt.
