Escalator Apparently Collapses At D.C. Metro Station
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Several steps of an escalator at Metro's Foggy Bottom station have apparently collapsed into the machinery.
Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel says there were no reports of injuries at the station Friday. He says the transit agency is still trying to determine what happened.
Problems with the station's escalators caused significant backups for passengers Friday morning.
It appears stairs at the bottom of an escalator fell into the machinery. Workers have since repaired the hole.
Taubenkibel says Metro had previously announced it was beginning a yearlong project to replace all the station's escalators. He says delays are to be expected at Foggy Bottom because of that work.
