Maryland Expanding Roadside Assistance Programs

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Maryland has partnered with the State Farm Insurance Agency to expand its roadside assistance programs.

Under the three-year agreement, the insurance company will spend $1.3 million to add two more vehicles to the state's emergency patrol program. It will also allow the program to add overnight hours.

The agreement was announced this week by state Transportation Secretary Beverley Swaim-Staley.

According to the latest figures available from the State Highway Administration, emergency patrols handled 55,000 incidents and vehicle responses in 2009.
