Fire Destroys Home Shared By Univ. Of Md. Students

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Three University of Maryland students have lost their home after an early morning fire that was driven by heavy winds.

Prince George's fire officials says the department was alerted around 6 a.m. Saturday to the fire at a two-story home on Potomac Avenue in College Park.

Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says three students shared the home. Two were home at the time the fire started and were able to escape safely. Firefighters also recovered several animals, including dogs and an exotic bird. There were no injuries.

Two alarms were sounded, and it took about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Brady says the house is a total loss and the cause is under investigation.
