BALTIMORE (AP) — Kevin Thompson scored 18 points on perfect 9-for-9 shooting and Morgan State defeated Virginia Military Institute 67-62 on Saturday.

Rodney Stokes added 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Bears snapped the Keydets’ three-game winning streak while establishing a three-game streak of their own.

VMI (15-12) led 35-34 at halftime, but wasn’t able to build much on it. Austin Kenon, who led the Keydets with 18 points, hit two free throws with 16:49 left to give VMI its biggest lead at 40-36.

The Bears (13-10) answered with nine straight points and kept the lead until expanding it to seven, 61-54, on Larry Bastfield’s jumper with 4:19 to go.

The Keydets made one last push, scoring five straight to cut the gap to 61-59 on D.J. Covington’s free throw with 24 seconds left.

Aric Brooks answered with four free throws and Bastfield two to close out VMI.
