Police Search For Suspect In Germantown Rapes

GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJZ) -- Since two elderly rape victims from Germantown came forward last week to tell their story, police estimate more than a million people have heard about the quest to find the rapist.

But as Mike Schuh reports, no leads have been generated, so a volunteer group took to the streets.

The Victims' Rights Foundation has already put up a $5,000 reward.  They've had enough and they want the rapist behind bars.

The rapist follows a pattern.  He crawled in through an unlocked window and raped a 68-year-old woman.

"I'm determined not to let this arrogant little twerp get away with it," said the woman.

Two months later, a man fitting the same description raped an 86-year-old woman after he climbed through a window.

"I have experienced hell in the form of a man and intruder, a serial rapist," she said.

The 67-year-old woman from the first rape says the same man crawled through her window and raped her again.

Both women talked about what happened to generate publicity to get this guy. 

Saturday, group members handed out 300 flyers near the victims' homes.

People are glad this horrible crime is being kept before the public.

"It's just human nature.  We have short memories, even when there is something horrific that occurs where we live," said Montgomery County Police Captain Paul Stark.

They need the right person to call them to put the rapist in jail.

"We believe there is at least one other person who knows about these crimes.  We need to hear from those people or that person," Stark said.

If they need to, the group says they will be out again to distribute even more flyers until the rapist is caught.
