American Beats Navy 69-58

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vlad Moldoveanu scored 28 points and American University fought off a late comeback attempt in a 69-58 victory over Navy on Wednesday night.

Nick Hendra scored all of the Eagles’ points in an 8-2 run, including back-to-back 3s, in the final 2:08 to seal the win.

Hendra finished with 11 points, and Troy Brewer added 16 as American (20-8, 10-3 Patriot League) secured its third 20-win season in four years in its regular-season home finale.

Greg Brown scored 16 points for the Midshipmen, including two 3-pointers and a pair of foul shots in an 11-1 run that closed the deficit to 57-53 with 4:29 to play.

Navy (10-19, 5-8) could pull no closer and will fail to finish .500 in conference play for the first time since 2007.

The Eagles shot 52 percent (11-of-21) from 3-point range, the second time this season American has shot above 50 percent from beyond the arc.
