BLOG: Stormy Weather Pattern

The rain, and snow are gone but the stormy weather pattern continues.

The heavy rain did cause some flooding issues, mainly throughout the D.C. metro area. There is even a flood warning still in effect along the Monocacy River near Frederick through tonight because it will take some time for all the levels to go down from the rain and snowmelt. Here are some other rainfall totals from around the region:
.83" Salisbury
1.01" Waldorf
1.03" Laurel
1.13" La Plata
1.25" TV Hill
1.31" Ellicott City
1.33" Columbia
1.34" Towson
1.36" Sparks
1.42" Annapolis
1.49" Easton
1.58" Elkton
1.69" Bel Air
1.72" Westminster
2.16" Frederick
2.48" Rockville

As the storm wrapped up, it also wrapped much colder air into it. This forced rain to change over to snow before this storm came to an end all the way down to BWI-Marshall. While it was just a quick burst of snow in the metro region, about a half an inch did whiten the ground in extreme northern Baltimore and Carroll Counties with a few inches on the ground out in western Maryland.

Behind the storm, gusty northwest winds have brought in cooler and drier air. The sun is out today and it is warming us up close to our average of 50 degrees, but with wind gusts of 30 mph. The winds will die down overnight and so will the temperatures. We will drop into the 20s overnight before recovering to the low 50s tomorrow. Temperatures will climb slightly later this week, but that's also when a new storm will move in.

Clouds will take over on Wednesday and then the rain will follow late Wednesday into Thursday. There could even be some heavy rain and a few thunderstorms. It's another slow mover and won't get out of here until late Thursday or Friday. A piece of this storm may hang back. It's something we will be watching closely. If it does, it will not be as strong or have nearly as much moisture with it but would swing through Saturday with clouds and the chance for a few showers.
