Consulting Report Faults Pepco Plan As Hasty
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A new report by independent consultants says a Pepco plan aimed at reducing power outages was assembled hastily and should be revamped.
Pepco, which serves Washington and two counties in Maryland, put together the multimillion dollar plan as it faced customer anger about outages and a perceived lack of reliability. Maryland's Public Service Commission requested an independent analysis of the plan.
The consultants say Pepco's plan represents a "quick attempt to throw money at the problem." They estimate that Pepco's plan would cost $256 million in Maryland alone.
A Pepco spokesman says he disagrees that the utility's plan was cobbled together.
